Oral medicine reflects on the treatment of all oral pathology lesions in the mouth. About 40 to 60% of systemic medical diseases also have symptoms in the mouth. In numerous cases the symptoms may be diagnosed first in the oral cavity.
The oral medicine field is the specialist physician part of dentistry, e.g. auto-immune diseases, cancers, bone and soft tissue cysts and includes resective surgery and/or pharmacological treatment.
